Victorian Calling Cards 11 Visiting Cards Flowers Birds Hands Various Styles Lot 3
This is Lot 3, a set of 11 original Victorian era calling cards or visiting cards. They were given by ladies to introduce themselves and to leave when visiting a home.
Calling cards or visiting cards were also used as enclosures with gifts. Every fashionable lady had their own, and many used the Language Of the Flowers to leave a message.
This set of 11 lithographed cards have various type faces, decorations and styles. We acquired these with a large lot of Victoria ephemera, and were told they had originally been in a scrapbook or visitor's album but had been removed years ago.
They are in very good used, antique condition with a bit of wear and marks of having mounted on the back. Calling cards are very difficult to find now, and are a window on an elegant and gracious age past.
