Tea Strainer MS Caronia Cunard White Star Ocean Liner 1950s Enamel Finial

English vintage

SKU:
  • $ 6800

This is a vintage souvenir tea strainer from the Cunard White Star Line ocean liner the MS Caronia that was made between her maiden voyage in 1949 and decommissioning in 1969.

The over the cup chrome plated tea strainer measures 6.5 inches long by 2.25 in diameter with an applied enamel shield with the White Star flag and is in excellent, mint condition.

The MS Caronia, known as the Green Goddess because of her coloring and art deco high style, was famous for being a hotel for 500 guests in Southampton as they were transferred in private pullman cars to London for the coronation of QEII in 1953.

The guests were ensconced by Aspley House on the parade route under a covering in the pouring rain and served white gloved catering before a return trip that evening to the ship again.

A wonderful piece of ocean liner memorabilia.
