Pair Crescent Bone Dishes Roses Topiary 1970s Takahashi Porcelain Side Dish Bowls

Japan, vintage

  • $ 1800

This is a pair of vintage porcelain crescent bone dishes or crescent side dishes made by Takahashi, Japan in the 1970s with red Roses on one, and topiary container trees from a conservatory on the other.

Crescent dishes were developed by the Victorians to sit by the dinner plate and collect the bones of the meal.

They are used now for salads, sauces, sushi at the dinner table. I keep my glasses in one at night by the bedside, and also use one on my desk for paper clips. The desk doesn't have to be boring!

The crescent salad dishes or bone dishes measure nearly 1 inch high by 6.5 inches long by 4 inches wide from tips to lowest point.

The crescent side dishes are in very good +++ used vintage condition with no chips or cracks but do have a bit of pattern wear on the Roses, a few manufacturing mineral deposits and some very minor gold wear.

The came from the famous Takahashi store in San Francisco California in the 1970s. They used to have stickers, but they have dropped off and been lost.
