Hammersley Mug King Edward VIII Coronation Uncrowned Abdicated 1937 Bone China

English vintage

SKU:
  • $ 7800

This bone china mug was created by Hammersley, England for the coronation in 1937 of King Edward VIII, uncle of Queen Elizabeth II who was never crowned.

Although he became King Edward VIII on the death of his father King George V, he was never crowned because he abdicated the throne in favor of his younger brother to marry American divorcee Wallis Simpson, which is the dedication or explanation on the reverse of the mug.

The has a sepia profile with a crown and motto and a band of the various symbols of the United Kingdom around the top of mug, and an heraldic device on the interior.

The mug is in very good +++ used vintage condition with no chips, cracks or restorations but there are minor flaws in the transfer which happened during manufacture.

A great piece of English royal history, a wonderful piece of royal memorabilia, a history of England collectible and a great conversation starter at your next tea party.
