English Faceted Crystal Cutlery Rest Star Notched Antique 1880s Victorian Era
This is an antique cut crystal cutlery rest from 1880-1900 that was made in England. The utensil rest measures 1.75 inches high by 4 inches long by 1.75 inches wide and has star hexagonal ends, star edges, and a notched and tapered hexagonal bar.
There are a few minor facet chips but generally the cut crystal knife rest is in very good +++ used vintage condition. From an English estate collection we recently acquired.
Cutlery rests were a creation to keep eating and dining utensils and serving utensils off the table cloths so the cloths remained clean.
With the Victorian passion for beautifying everything, knife rests were dining table works of art and are very collectible. Presently undergoing a renaissance.
