English Brama Gold Green Chintz Biscuit Barrel 1940s Cookie Jar Floral Midwinter

Midwinter, England

SKU:
  • $ 18800

This is a vintage 1940s Brama chintz biscuit barrel, biscuit jar or cookie jar made by Midwinter, England between 1940-1946.

Midwinter, England is now a part of Wedgwood.

The pretty chintz ceramic biscuit jar is in in a pattern called Brama consisting of a green ground with a gold chintz grapes and grapevine overlay. The Brama pattern was substituted by what used to be the Springtime pattern in 1946-1947, so the dating is pretty narrow.

The biscuit barrel measures 6 inches high to top of jar by 5 inches square and has silver plated EPNS fittings. The silver plated fittings are fancy and are marked EPNS with S F and 2 crossed arrows. The lid has a hand engraved floral design.

The biscuit or cracker jar is in very good +++ used vintage condition with no chips or cracks, an excellent interior, but there is plating loss to the fittings, especially the lid from a lot of polishing.

A wonderfully decorative as well as useful item. Perfect for storing your rich tea biscuits, Oreos or Hob Nobs.
