This is a vintage Thomas Hughes and Sons, Ltd. England Imperial Derby Imari pattern cup and saucer made from 1925-1935. The pattern was made by the company from the 1890s.

The ironstone cup is 2.75 inches high and the very deep saucer is 5.5 inches square with gold trim.

The design is a sepia transfer hand colored with the imari colors of cobalt blue, green and rust made popular by the Victorian discovery of china from the Imari region of Japan.

The cup and saucer is in very good +++ condition with no chips or cracks and a bit of gold trim wear and normal mild crazing. A lovely pattern.

The clear mark seen is from another in the set... we had 12 available at one time but have sold the others... but the mark on this saucer is worn... but you can still see the horse.

Imari was a favorite pattern of Violet, Lady Grantham on Downton Abbey.
