Gorgeous Nippon Japonisme Teacup Hand Painted Pink Gold Beading Moriage 1880s

Japan, vintage

This is an absolutely gorgeous Japanese Nippon Japonisme fancy pink cup and saucer by an unknown Japanese maker dating to 1870-1891.

The cabinet display cup and saucer have lovely pink borders on white with hand painted Chrysanthemums, white slip stylized flowers and gold beading moriage throughout the design with further gold trim. The handle and cup foot are burnished gold.

The gorgeous eggshell porcelain quatrefoil cup, or slightly square pedestal cup, measures 2.25 inches high by 4 inches in diameter with a scalloped pedestal foot. The rounded corner square saucer measures 5.85 inches in diameter.

The dating is secure, as the McKinley Tariff Act required all goods being imported into the United States to have a manufacturer and country either bu mark or sticker, and this has only a decipherable line mark.

Although moriage was used into the 1930s, the quality of this set indicates it's early date.

The cup and saucer is in very good +++ used vintage condition with no chips or cracks, only minor gold wear to the cup handle, and no missing beading, which is extremely rare, and attests to the teacup being treasure and well cared for.

An absolutely beautiful teacup for your next tea party or to add to a teacup collection.
