Devon Ware Egg Cup Pair 1920s Berkeley Castle Walton-On-Naze Eggcups Bue White
One blue and white pottery eggcup has the incised name of a place, in this case Walton-On-Naze which is near the town of Ipswich or Colchester in Essex on the southeastern coast of England and measures measures 2 inches high by 2 inches in diameter.
The other eggcup is inscribed Berkley Castle and measures 1.75 inches high by 1.85 inches in diameter.
The eggcups are made of porcelain clay, then glazed with blue and inscribed. The process used to inscribe the eggcups is sometimes called scrafito or sgraphito, and is really part of the Devon motto ware tradition.
The eggcups are in very good +++ used vintage condition with no chips or cracks.
The mark on one is there but unfortunately is unreadable, and the other is unmarked which is quite normal for Devonware.
Devon Ware souvenir ware is very collectible as well as decorative and no longer made.
