Tablecloth 1890s Embroidered Shamrocks England White Victorian Make Do Whitework TLC
This is a hand embroidered fine linen Victorian era tablecloth made in England with a high relief white work pattern that looks like shamrocks.
The table cloth measures 54 inches by 40 inches and has faggoting edging on 2 sides and hand embroidered white on white satin and chain stitch shamrocks and foliage.
I believe some thrifty Victorian house wife in the 1890s made this tablecloth out of a bed sheet as there is a center French seam which is a usual what is called Sides to Middle procedure to save a worn sheet. There are also several small darns which are not very well done.
The piece is an interesting one and getting very hard to find.
A great collectible piece of Victoriana, perhaps in need of a bit of TLC.
