Cut Glass Knife Rest Pair Tapered Baton Waffle Fan 1890s Victorian
This is a pair of English hand faceted cut glass knife rests. Each of the knife rests measures each 3.75 inches long by .85 inch square and they are tapered and beveled square baton shape. The knife rests have a pattern that includes waffle, fan and diamond and have hand polished ends. The knife rests are in near excellent condition with only a few tiny fleabites on the end bevel edges. A wonderful find to set an elegant dining or tea table. From an English estate collection we recently acquired.
Knife rests were a creation to keep knives or serving pieces and serving utensils off the table cloths so the cloths remained clean. With the victorian passion for beautifying everything, knife rests were dining table works of art and are very collectible. Presently undergoing a renaissance for the dining table and tea table. We have even supplied sets to sommelier tables.
