English vintage

SKU:
  • $ 000

This is a vintage English Blue Willow variation cup and saucer made between 1923-1936 by Royal Venton, England in their version of the Willow or Blue Willow pattern of blue transferware on ironstone.

The cup is 2.25 inches high saucer 5.85 inches in diameter with a lovely abstract border print.

Both pieces are in very good +++ used vintage condition with no cracks, but only the tiniest cup rim flake as shown in the photo.

Royal Venton was a trade name of John Stevenson Ltd., and was only in production for a few short years before the lead up to World War II caused them to fail.

Willow or Blue Willow is a design that originated in 1792 and tealls of fleeing lovers. The design elements always include a brisge, pagoda and 2 birds representing the lovers as well as the willow tree.

A favorite pattern of many, and one of the earliest designs in china patterns. Love the romantic story!
