English vintage

This is a superb quality English Gothic style antique silver plated toast rack or toast holder made in the 1920s-1930s with an interesting pedigree.

The Gothic arch toast rack was mad in Sheffield by James Dixon & Sons for Thos. Webb & Sons, the famous cameo glass makers, for their exclusive shop in Melbourne Australia.

The art deco toast rack also bears the crest for Clivedon Mansions, an historical landmark in Melbourne, so it was purchased from the Thos Webb & Sons shop for the exclusive catered apartments only the wealthy could afford.

The toast rack measures 4 inches high to the top of the handle or 3 inches high to the top of the arches by 3.5 inches long by 2.5 inches wide and holds 4 slices.

The toast rack or holder is in very good +++ used vintage condition with no plating loss and minor signs of use. James Dixon was known for his superior plating, so the condition is no surprise.

Toast racks are also very popular today as letter holders or napkin holders and who knows what else you can think of!
