This is a set of 4 beautiful early Ridgway, England hand painted and decorated plates made by Ridgway, England, during the John Ridgway, Bates & Co. England partnership at the Caudon Place works between 1856-1858.

The plates each measure 1 inch high by 9.5 inches in diameter with a hand painted floral center bouquets and each plate is different.

The plates have a gorgeous a blue border, sometimes called French Blue or Sevres blue that was used by Staffordshire potteries at this time as well, and hand applied gold shell and foliage design with a gold dentil edge.

The only mark on each of the plates is the hand written number 1864 over glaze in orange/red, which is in line with the records of the period pattern numbering. In fact these images they have recently been added to the website documenting early Ridway from the Ridgway Museum.

The gorgeous plates are in very good +++ used vintage condition with no chips or cracks, but there is some gold wear and some utensil marks.

An outstandingly beautiful set of plates, and very hard to find.
