Crescent Bone Dish Adams Red Transfer Staffordshire Flower 1940s Side Dish

Adams, England

SKU:
  • $ 000

This is an vintage English red transferware crescent bone dish in the Staffordshire Flower Chintz pattern made by Adams, England for JonRoth distributing in the 1940s. The pretty chintz ironstone bone dish or crescent side or salad dish was a great find, as this pattern isn't seen often.

The crescent dish or bone dish measures 1 inches high by 6.25 inches long by 3.25 inches wide and is in very good +++ used vintage condition with no chips or cracks. There are 3 tiny pinprick spots on the back that are evidence of the stilts used in the kiln made during the manufacturing process which is perfectly normal for ironstone.

Crescent dishes were developed by the Victorians to sit by the dinner plate and collect the bones of the meal. They are used now for salads, sauces, sushi at the dinner table. I keep my glasses in one at night by the bedside. I also use one on my desk for paper clips. The desk doesn't have to be boring!
