This is an antique EAPG or Early American Pattern Glass spooner with the wonderful pattern called variously Actress, Theatrical, Annie, Goddess of Liberty or Pinafore made in the 1870-1880s by La Belle Glass Company, USA.

The spooner has a combination of raised cameos or profiles of women in ornate mid Victorian or Civil War era costumes with shell motifs, a pedestal and a scalloped rim.

The designs are of Maggie Mitchell, actress and friend of John Wilkes Booth aka Maggie Mitchell or Margaret Julia Mitchell, who was born June 14, 1832, New York, New York, U.S. and died March 22, 1918, New York City. She was an American actress who, with her performance in a trademark gamine role, created a public sensation, and had nationwide celebrity status.

The spooner 5 inches high by 3.75 in diameter and is in excellent used vintage condition with no chips or cracks and basically no wear from use with a good, strong pattern.

The spooner is very attractive and is one of the most sought after of EAPG, or Early American Pattern Glass spooner patterns.

The EAPG spooner is a great way to store your spoons as it was designed to do, or for an attractive vase.
