Dudson England Blue Jasperware Dip Biscuit Jar 1870s Hinged Lid 5 Muses
This is a fabulous Dudson, England blue green jasper or jasperware biscuit jar, biscuit barrel or cookie jar made in the mid to late Victorian period, 1960-1870s.
The biscuit jar has a glazed interior and the applied white jasperware sprigged classical figures in a design of Muses with filigree pilasters or columns. The work is beautifully done.
The unusual tight hinged lid has a hand engraved shell like designand is top quality silver plate and unmarked. There is mild plate loss from polishing and a few blemishes, but basically very good +++ used vintage condition.
The biscuit barrel is 6 inches high to the top of the finial or 5 inches high by 5 inches in diameter. The jasperware jar is incised with the 852, and the letters W L and another unidentifiable mark are impressed into the barrel base rim.
The teapot is in excellent used vintage condition with no chips, cracks or wear. There is one tiny speck of blue missing as seen in the photo. The interior is very good +++ but has a bit of staining, which happens after butter based baked goods are stored in the jar for years, as is obviously the case here.
But very useable indeed, as well as so decorative! It is just beauriful!
