This is a marked sterling silver antique American sugar sifting spoon or shell shaped sugar sifter spoon made 1890-1910, during the late Victorian or Edwardian period.

The pierced sugar sifting spoon is 5.25 inches long with a 1.75 inch in diameter shell shaped bowl pierced with fancy star and paisley shaped holes and a fancy shaped floral and beaded handle.

The sugar sifting spoon is in excellent condition and is a beautiful asset for the tea table.

Sugar sifting spoons were developed to sift the crushed sugar available before modern granulated or powdered sugar onto tea time muffins, crumpets or pancakes.
