1. SPODE INTERACTIVE WEBSITE OPENS
We are members of the Transferware Collector's Society (http://www.transcollectorsclub.org/) which has a super research data base for transferware patterns with history and all sorts of great resources available.
A few days ago they announced to opening of an interactive website
called Spode Exhibition Online which is a great new site. Not only is it
beautifully done, but has a myriad of experiences and info about the
history of the pottery, of the pieces and processes and the industry as a
whole. The website is dedicated to Robert Copeland, who did so much to save the history of Copeland Spode in particular and the Staffordshire Potteries as a whole.
We were able to visit the Copeland estate and museum on a personal tour
with the current Lord Copeland 3 years ago. Wheww!!! What gorgeous
stuff! I have a slide show of that on the top of my Time Was Antiques family blog at http://timewasantiquesfamily.blogspot.com/.
The Spode website is well worth some time, if only to drool over examples. This is the website URL: http://spodeceramics.com/

2. FEATURED - HEADS UP FOR VICTORIA TEA FESTIVAL
This is a heads up message for those of you who live in the Pacific Northwest of the USA or Vancouver or Vancouver Island in Canada. Event tickets are now on sale for the Victoria Tea Festival which is scheduled for February 12-13th, 2011 and is a wonderful event.
From the website: Celebrating it's 5th Anniversary in 2011, the
Victoria Tea Festival is the largest public tea exhibition in North
America and is hosted in the tea capital of Canada! Consumers and
businesses alike can indulge in an educational and interactive tea
experience exploring the traditions and trends of tea, while supporting a
worthy cause - Camosun College
Child Care Services. The weekend event features tea tastings,
delectable tea-food selections, complimentary presentations on a variety
of topics, opportunities to purchase hundreds of teas, tea-related
products, and exquisite tea wares. An extensive Silent Auction will also
be offered.
We love to attend! It is a wonderful event in a
lovely location and we always find out about new tea rooms in the area
which we love. Victoria, BC is our closest big city and where we usually
end up for birthdays, anniversaries, etc. Just a ferry away!

3. FUN FOCUS--TEA COZIES
We love to find fun websites related to things we love, and this month
we found to corkers!!! We love all things related to tea, and tea cozies
(or tea cosies or even teacosies depending on your nationality or
preferences) are a classic part of taking tea.
So...I found
these 2 great blogs totally dedicated to tea cozies and I just LOVE
them! I have added them as links on my blog & generally love them.
These are tea cozies as works of art! You will love them! Who knows,
they may spur you on to a new collection or a way of expressing
yourself! Enjoy!

5. TEA RECIPE OF THE MONTH--CRANBERRY ORANGE SCONES
Now that days are shorter and there's a nip in the air what is cosier
than sitting by a fire with a cup of tea and a fresh scone watching the
leaves drift by the window and trying not to think about the fact that
they have to be raked up!
Our recipe this month is that type of recipe and comes to us from the blog Mennonite Girls Can Cook which can be seen at: http://mennonitegirlscancook.blogspot.com/
Cranberry Orange Scones
* 2 cups flour * 2 teaspoons baking powder * 1/2 teaspoon salt * 1/4 cup sugar * 1/3 cup butter, chilled * 3/4 cup fresh cranberries, coarsely chopped * 1 tablespoon finely grated orange peel * 1 egg, beaten with fork * 3/4 cup buttermilk
1. Combine dry ingredients in mixing bowl. 2. Cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse meal. 3. Mix in orange zest and coarsely chopped cranberries. 4. Combine buttermilk and egg; add to dry ingredients and mix until dough sticks together. 5. Drop by large spoonfuls (scoop) onto a baking sheet lined with parchment. 6. Bake at 400°F for 15 minutes or until golden. 7. Cool slightly and then drizzle with glaze.
Glaze:
* 3/4 cup icing sugar * 1 teaspoon orange zest * 3 tablespoons orange juice
Combine ingredients and stir until smooth. Using a spoon, drizzle the icing over the scones. Yield: 12 scones *************************************************
