HAPPY
NEW YEAR! We have not been too faithful with our newsletters in 2009
Dear Reader, due to health issues for my Dear Husband John who was
diagnosed with parkinson's disease last January. BUT with a new
neurologist and new medications he is doing much better and we are
rejoicing in facing 2010 with much hope and faith in God who proved so
loving and protective last year. It wasn't an easy year but we have
learned so much and have been so blessed.

1. WHAT'S NEW?--ANTIQUES AND TEACUPS OPEN
We are very excited to be opening our new independent website Antiques And Teacups at http://www.antiquesandteacups.com.
We felt with so many items on one website (Time Was Antiques has nearly
3,000) that we needed to spin off some categories to a new website
especially dedicated to tea table items...so Antiques And Teacups was
born! We also have the capability for more personalization with
newsletters, sales, personal messages, web ring links and the ability
to have articles of interest easily available to our friends and
customers. We have about 150 items at the moment and the
site will be growing daily. So come to visit! If you mention NEWSLETTER
in the comments of an order we will provide your choice of FREE
shipping or a 15% discount. Come and visit! Feedback, suggestions and
comments welcomed! :)

2. FUN FOCUS---EGG CODDLERS
A very popular item at all times and especially this Christmas season was egg coddlers...those funny items made to coddle eggs. Egg coddlers have been around since the 18th century and have a pedigree of many wonderful manufacturers making them. Egg coddlers
have come in primarily 4 sizes from the single coddler made for 1 egg
to the mammoth Maxime which was also used to cook leftovers or 4-6
eggs. Egg coddlers have been mostly made in porcelain with pretty
patterns exemplified by the Royal Worcester designs
most often seen, but they were also made in glass and solid colors as
well. Today there are whole egg coddler collecting societies and for
more information, here is the link to an egg coddler collecting site I
love where you can find so much useful and interesting information:

In England a Christmas Day tradition is the Queen's Christmas message broadcast at 3PM. The broadcast started as a radio broadcast and of course, is not seen on TV and the Royal Channel of YouTube.
If you would like to see this and join in a long standing British
tradition, here is the link to the Royal Channel on YouTube and the

5. TEA RECIPE OF THE MONTH--ORANGE GLAZED SHORTBREAD COOKIES
Just what we need to start the year off right...tea cookies (or biscuits to Brits!)
1 cup butter, softened 1/3 cup powdered sugar, sifted to remove lumps shredded zest of one orange 1/2 tsp ground coriander 2 cups all purpose flour
GLAZE: 2 tsp apricot jam, heated and strained 3 tbs powdered sugar, sifted 1 tbs orange juice
Butter or grease several baking sheets and dust lightly with flour.
In
a bowl, beat butter with the powdered sugar until light and creamy.
Stir in the orange zest. In another bowl sift coriander and flour then
add bit by bit to the butter mixture with a wooden spoon until mixed
and a soft dough. Spoon into a pastry bag
or cone with a large star tip and pipe rings of dough onto the prepared
baking sheets. Refrigerate 30 minutes. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Bake cookies for 20 minutes or until lightly browned.
To glaze, brush each shortbread cookie
with a little of the apricot jam. In a small bowl mix the powdered
sugar and orange juice and brush over the cookies. Return the cookies
to the oven for 2-3 minutes until the glaze is set. Cool on baking
sheets a few minutes and then transfer to wire racks to cool
completely. Makes 24-18 cookies.
