This is a vintage set of 6 English cut glass knife rests in their original box that were made in 1930-1940s. Each of the knife rests measures each 3.5 inches long by 1 inch square and they are tapered and beveled square baton shape. The knife rests are all in excellent condition with no chips or cracks, but they need a clean from long storage. The box shows wear on all the edges. A wonderful find to set an elegant dining or tea table as these are rarely seen in sets, original box and in such good condition. From an English estate collection we recently acquired.
Knife rests were a creation to keep knifes and serving utensils off the table cloths so the cloths remained clean. With the victorian passion for beautifying everything, knife rests were dining table works of art and are very collectible. Presently undergoing a renaissance for the dining table and tea table. We have even supplied sets to sommelier tables.
