Description
This is an American Victorian era crescent bone dish in a lilacs pattern in polychrome transferware made by T. K. & K. or Taylor, Knowles and Kent of Ohio, USA 1880-1890s. The slightly scalloped semi vitreous porcelain, a type of ironstone, has gold hand painted accents and gold trim. The crescent dish or bone dish measures 1 inches high by 6.15 inches long by 3.25 inches wide and is in very good condition with no chips or cracks but does have an old firing flaw made during the manufacturing process that is discolored and some gold wear.

Crescent dishes were developed by the victorians to sit by the dinner plate and collect the bones of the meal. They are used now for salads, sauces, sushi at the dinner table. I keep my glasses in one at night by the bedside. I also use one on my desk for paper clips. The desk doesn't have to be boring!
