Well I hope you are enjoying your summer which is moving on MUCH to fast! It's already mid August and fall is fast approaching.
I'd like to remind you about our Time Was Antiques Family blog which features an almost daily interesting item or something interesting going on in our lives. Blogging is a relatively new thing for me, but our kids encouraged me, so...
You can find our blog here: http://timewasantiquesfamily.blogspot.com/We are also on Twitter, and that has the really cool feature, that is hooked up to my main website Time Was Antiques at http://www.timewasantiques.net. Every time I add a new item to the site, I tweet it! Cool. You can find us at:

2. FUN FOCUS---TOOTHPICK HOLDERS
Many folks are looking for a relatively inexpensive item to collect. As well as other suggestions I have made, I would like to also suggest Toothpick Holders. Like their name implies, Toothpick holders held...well, toothpicks! That's a DUH, isn't it? Toothpick holders, or just toothpicks as they are called in the trade, were vastly popular in the victorian era both sides of the Atlantic where every item had to be beautiful, no matter how utilitarian. Toothpicks come in almost any material including glass, china, wood, celluloid, ivory, silver and basically, you name it!
The victorians made a toothpick for almost every dinner service and toothpicks were also very popular as souvenir items. In the 1930s they were made of carnival glass and were a neat fair or carnival prize. There is no end of the different patterns and shapes which is what makes it such a fun collectible. There are toothpick collections chosen my color, age, material, pattern or country...the options are almost endless!!!
There is a National Toothpick Holders Collector Society with conventions, forum and newsletter. You can visit their website at:

3. HAPPY BIRTHDAY BIG BEN!!!!
Everybody has a birthday, even a famous clock named Ben! Big Ben, of course, the clock that is the iconic symbol of the Houses Of Parliament in London, England. Big Ben is 150 years old this year, and the year has seen many special events in England, with many still to come. Big Ben struck it's first hour on July 11, 1859 and has been greatly popular ever since. So....Here's to you Big Ben...Happy Birthday, old chap, and many more!!!!!
To learn more about this fabulous National treasure of England, here is the link to the BBC website for Big Ben with videos, timelines, etc:
