Description
This is an antique English transferware sucrier, sugar box or sugar bowl made 1880-1890 by an unknown Staffordshire England maker. There is an under glaze impressed mark but other than being able to decifer a globe shap, the banner Quality below and a banner across with ...T & Co I am unable to identify the maker. The sucrier measures 5.5 inches high by 8 inches long by 5.5 square and comes from the victorian era when sugar was in large chunks, not the cubes or granulated form we are familiar with. The design is of brown transferware dog roses with hand colored pink and greenish accents and gold trim. The ironstone sucrier is in excellent condition with only mild crazing and discoloration with no chips or cracks. Sucriers are now used a tea caddies, small biscuit jars or candy jars and are very decorative.
